Optical Engineer

About Ring Labs

We are a hardcore research team hungry to build the next generation of computer vision and machine learning technology. Ring’s R&D-center in Kiev that is focused on applying AI, machine learning, computer vision and intellectual data analysis technology for smart home security products.


— Simulation and designing of optical components using both sequential and non-sequential ray optics, scalar wave optics, and electromagnetic theory
— Statistical Tolerancing and robust design for photonics components
— Convert component requirements into design requirement
— Collaboration with the prototyping and metrology teams to define test plans for manufacturing and measurements
— Provide technical leadership in the area of optical system design for Ring’s global product development teams
— Perform design reviews of current Ring products as well as products that are in development
— Define optics and opto-mechanical system specifications
— Evaluate and define optical system coating and filtering technologies
— Develop optics testing and validation plans
— Define manufacturing and assembly processes
— Perform troubleshooting and problem identification
— Evaluate and define Fresnel performance
— Evaluate and define specification of light sensing technologies

Qualifications and Skills

— MS or Ph.D. in Optical Sciences, Optical Physics or related field with +3 years of relevant experience
— Must have strong electrical engineering background
— Hands-on skills for basic optical design tools such as Zemax, ASAP, VirtualLab or Code
— Good understanding of basic optical components: imaging optics, waveguides, diffractive optics and thin films
— Ability to learn easily new methods of optical designing
— Good time management and organization skills to complete projects on time and to specification
— English communication skills (speak, read, write)

Will be a plus

— Programming skills with Matlab, C++ or C#
— Strong background in rigorous diffraction theory (FMM, C-method, exact eigenmode method, FDFD, FDTD)
